Iron ore in Scramble Knights Online comes from quest rewards, and in the first days of Early Access players point to one source above the rest: the Void Knight. On the official Steam discussion board, players report that killing the Void Knight is the fastest way to collect iron ore, and that quests 1-12 and 1-14 also list iron ore among their possible rewards. Funktronic Labs has not published an official drop table, so treat everything on this page as player-reported until the developer confirms it.
Why iron ore matters
Every quest earns gems and materials, and you spend those materials at the Blacksmith to craft weapons, forge armor and upgrade equipment. Iron ore is one of the materials that early upgrade steps ask for, which is why so many new knights hit a wall with it soon after the tutorial. When you open a weapon's upgrade tree, the Blacksmith shows exactly which materials each step needs. If iron ore appears there and your storage is empty, that is your signal to start farming.
Because upgraded gear unlocks harder quests, and harder quests pay better rewards, running short on iron ore slows your whole progression loop. Planning where it comes from early saves you from replaying random quests and hoping for a lucky roll.
Source 1: The Void Knight
The most repeated advice from players is to grind the quest where you fight the Void Knight. One player in the Steam thread said they had beaten him many times solo, so the fight is manageable without a full party once your gear is in reasonable shape. Another player asked whether the encounter was bugged after a patch, and the reply was that it worked as far as they knew. If the fight does not behave as expected after an update, check the latest patch notes before spending more time on it.
Why does the boss route work well? Boss quests tend to sit at the harder end of the early quest list, and harder quests give better rewards. The reward screen at the end of each quest also rolls items, so repeating a high-value quest gives you more chances at iron ore than repeating an easy one.
### Tips for repeat runs
- Upgrade one main weapon before you start farming so each run is quicker.
- Wear armor with enough poise to avoid constant stagger. Above 100 poise you gain a bar that absorbs hits before you are knocked back.
- Bring health potions. Many quests require them, and any health potion type counts.
- Bring friends if you can. Squads of up to four can clear the fight faster, and crossplay works across Steam, Microsoft Store and Xbox.
Source 2: Quests 1-12 and 1-14
Players report that quests 1-12 and 1-14 list iron ore as a potential reward. Check the quest board in Town Square: the quest details show the reward pool before you accept. If the Void Knight run is too hard for your current gear, these two quests are a sensible alternative. They also give you gems and other materials, so the time is never fully wasted.
Rewards are rolled rather than fixed. The final playtest patch changed the reward screen wording to make that clearer. A single clear does not guarantee iron ore, so expect to repeat a quest a few times.
Source 3: Exploration and resource objects
The developer says you can find even more materials by exploring the world around you during quests. Some fan sites claim iron ore comes from cave and hillside nodes, with caves holding the most. We have not been able to confirm those node locations in the current Early Access build, and the official notes do not name iron ore nodes. If you find a resource object while exploring, break it and check what drops. Dungeons also hide treasure chests, and the September beta notes say dungeons contain many armor recipes.
For a full list of confirmed material sources, see our crafting materials guide.
What about magical ore?
Players have also asked about magical ore. A separate Steam discussion notes that magical ore was not yet obtainable in the current build. Do not spend hours hunting for it. Content is being added in Star tiers: the 1-Star area launched on October 26, 2026, and later tiers will expand the world. New materials and recipes are likely to arrive with them.
A simple farming plan
1. Open the Blacksmith and note how much iron ore your next few upgrades need. 2. If your knight can handle the Void Knight, repeat that quest until you have enough. 3. If not, run quests 1-12 and 1-14 to build gear and gather iron ore at the same time. 4. Explore each quest area rather than rushing the objective, and collect any extra materials you find. 5. Store spare materials so the in-town crafting menu can use them, then return to the Blacksmith.
Spend iron ore on one weapon at a time. Spreading it across several weapons and armor pieces leaves all of them weak. Once your main weapon is upgraded, harder quests get easier and your iron ore income goes up.
Common mistakes
The first mistake is selling materials you will need later. The final playtest patch fixed a bug where the reward screen sometimes failed to sell items, which means selling from that screen works. Be careful what you sell, because iron ore is worth more in an upgrade than as quick gems.
The second mistake is trusting old beta guides. The open beta ended with a full progress wipe, and many systems were reworked before Early Access, including the Blacksmith menu and the poise system. Quest numbering and rewards may also change in future updates.
The third mistake is farming quests far below your level. They are fast, but their reward pools are weaker. A quest that takes a little longer but pays better is usually the faster route overall.
How we will keep this page updated
Scramble Knights Online launched into Early Access on October 26, 2026 with roughly five hours of 1-Star content. The developer expects Early Access to last at least a year. As patches change drop rates or add new sources of iron ore, we will update this page and note the game version. If you find a reliable iron ore source we have missed, you can reach us through the contact page.
For what to do with your iron ore, read our weapon upgrades guide. To spend it on armor, see the crafting recipes guide. If the Void Knight is giving you trouble, our boss guide covers general preparation for dungeon bosses.
