Scramble Knights Online does not have a class selection screen in its official material. Funktronic Labs describes every player as a knight, and you shape your role through the weapon, secondaries and equipment you choose to upgrade. The developer's June announcement says it is your choice which weapon, secondaries and equipment you upgrade, and that this creates a build unique to you. In other words, your "class" is the gear you invest in, and you can change it later.
Why players ask about classes
The game is an MMO-lite action RPG, and many online RPGs ask you to pick a warrior, mage or healer up front. Some third-party sites also describe class-like archetypes for Scramble Knights Online. We could not confirm those with a second reliable source, and none of the official store pages, patch notes or launch announcements list classes. If a guide shows a fixed class tree, treat it with caution.
What shapes your role instead
### Weapons and abilities
The Steam store lists Action Combat as a key feature: master a variety of unique weapons and abilities to overcome enemies. Your main weapon decides your reach, attack speed and how you deal with groups or single targets. That makes the weapon the closest thing to a class choice. Read our best weapons guide for how to compare them.
### Secondaries
The developer mentions secondaries alongside main weapons. A secondary adds another tool to your kit, and together with your main weapon it defines what you bring to a squad. Exactly which secondaries exist in Early Access has not been fully documented yet.
### Armor and poise
The September beta introduced a poise bar. Armor adds to poise, and above 100 poise you gain a bar that absorbs hits before you get staggered. When poise reaches zero, knockback and hit stun return, and the bar refills after 10 seconds. Heavy armor with high poise lets you stand in front of enemies, which is the closest thing to a tank role.
### Leveling
The same September update added a leveling system. Levels and gear upgrades both make your knight stronger, but neither locks you into one path. You keep the freedom to swap weapons and armor as you find new recipes.
Playing common roles without classes
Even without classes, squads of up to four tend to split responsibilities. Here is how to approach familiar roles using the systems that exist.
### Front line (tank-style)
Stack armor for poise so enemies cannot interrupt you. Pick a weapon you can swing reliably while taking hits, and stay between enemies and your teammates. Rock-hurling crabs and towering dungeon bosses hit hard, so poise matters more than raw damage here.
### Damage dealer
Focus your upgrades on one main weapon and keep it ahead of the rest of your gear. A damage dealer wants quick kills on electric slimes, bats, skeletons and Elite bandit variants. Lighter armor is fine if a teammate holds the front line.
### Support and utility
Without a confirmed healer class, support in Scramble Knights Online means carrying spare health potions, reviving and staying ready for puzzle objectives in dungeons. Many quests require health potions, and any potion type counts, so the support player can make sure the party never runs short.
### Ranged or mixed play
Keep your hotbar organised so you can switch between a weapon, a secondary and consumables mid-fight. On keyboard and mouse the hotbar sits on keys 1 to 6, and the mouse wheel cycles through it. The game also has full controller support with remappable inputs.
Can you change your role later?
Yes. Because roles come from gear rather than a locked class, you can switch whenever you craft or upgrade new equipment at the Blacksmith. The cost is materials and gems. Spreading upgrades across too many weapons leaves all of them weak, so most players commit to one main weapon and adjust armor as content gets harder. Iron ore is a common bottleneck; see our iron ore guide for where players farm it.
Classes in PvP
The September beta added a PvP Arena and dueling in Town Square, and faction PvP pits teams of knights against each other. In PvP, matchups between weapons and armor take the place of class counters. Use dueling to test how a weapon feels against another player before you commit resources. Our PvP and factions guide covers the modes in more detail.
Will classes be added later?
The developer has not announced classes. Scramble Knights Online launched into Early Access on October 26, 2026 with the 1-Star area, roughly five hours of content. The roadmap expands the game through Star tiers, and 1.0 is planned after four or more tiers, with Early Access expected to last at least a year. Systems may change along the way, as the poise rework during the beta showed. If classes or specialisations appear, we will update this page with the patch that added them.
Quick answers
- Is there a class pick at character creation? Not in any official material.
- What decides my role? Your main weapon, secondaries, armor and upgrades.
- Can I respec? You can switch gear at any time; the cost is the materials you spend.
- Is there a healer? No dedicated healer is confirmed. Potions and teamwork fill that gap.
